We aim to motivate, guide and empower you to effectively and flexibly manage your diabetes. In particular we want our specialist service to help you get the most out of the latest technology and the data it provides and gain the confidence to adjust things day-by-day as needed.

We provide individualised education, guidance and practical support. Amongst other things, we will provide you with data driven analysis, device setting adjustment skills and a regular review of outcomes.

Lesley Manning

RGN, RSCN, PGDip Nursing Science

I qualified in Oxford in the UK and have 40 years of nursing experience, including 13 years as a specialist in diabetes management. I have a postgraduate diploma and am a designated nurse prescriber. I am an Accredited Specialist Diabetes Nurse by the Aotearoa College of Diabetes Nurses. I work as a Diabetes Clinical Nurse Specialist for Te Whatu Ora and for Beta ONE.

I work with people of all ages, and I have particular expertise in the education and commencement of pump therapy and ongoing support, data analysis and optimisation of settings for more predictable and accurate outcomes.

I am an experienced educator and I regularly teach doctors, nurses and other support workers about diabetes management. I have indepth knowledge of carbohydrate counting and co-deliver the MITCHAL (Matching Insulin To Carbohydrates, Health And Lifestyle) course for Te Whatu Ora.

Away from work, my passions are my family, food (cooking and eating!), calligraphy and travel.

Meagan Hughes

BSN, PGDip Nursing Science, RN

I am a registered Nurse and have been nursing for over 20 years with over 12 years specialised in diabetes management, working with people of all ages.

I hold a Bachelor of Nursing and have completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Nursing Science and am recognised as a Registered Nurse Prescriber. I have completed accreditation as a Diabetes Nurse Specialist by the Aotearoa College of Diabetes Nurses. My roles include working as a Diabetes Specialist Nurse for Beta One Ltd and Te Whatu Ora.

I have a special interest and expertise in insulin pump therapy, and continuous glucose monitoring devices and data analysis.

I have been a guest lecturer at Victoria University of Wellington and Whitireia sharing my knowledge with Nursing and Masters of Nursing students.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, running and playing sports.

Dr Richard Carroll

Dr Richard Carroll

Doctor Richard Carroll practises as a Consultant Endocrinologist at Wakefield Specialist Medical Centre, Wellington Regional Hospital, and Hutt Valley Hospital. Dr Carroll is president of the New Zealand Society for Endocrinology and specialises in the diagnosis and management of conditions effecting endocrine glands, including the thyroid gland, adrenal glands and pituitary gland, and all aspects of diabetes care. Dr Carroll provides medical support for BeTa ONE.

Professor Jeremy Krebs

Professor Jeremy Krebs

Professor Krebs is an Endocrinologist with a particular interest in obesity and diabetes. He trained in Endocrinology at Wellington Hospital in New Zealand and then did his doctorate with the Medical Research Council – Human Nutrition Research unit in Cambridge England. His thesis was on the impact of dietary factors on obesity and insulin resistance. Prof Krebs returned to New Zealand in 2002 to take up a consultant Endocrinology post at Wellington Hospital, where he was Clinical Leader of Endocrinology and Diabetes from 2007 to 2017. He is a past President of NZSSD. He is a Professor of Medicine with the University of Otago, and previously the Director of the Clinical Research Diploma at Victoria University. As well as clinical and teaching activities, Prof Krebs leads a research group across the DHB and the University in the area of obesity and diabetes, with a focus on nutritional aspects, and diabetes service delivery. He has a wide range of collaborations across disciplines and institutions. These include working with basic scientists in genetics and immunology and with academic nutritionists.
